About Browser Interview Release Notes

HotDocs enables you to use HotDocs Server or HotDocs Cloud Services to provide browser-based interviews to your end users.

You also access this functionality in HotDocs Developer when you use the Test in Browser feature.

The HotDocs Browser Interview files in the various releases below enable you to update the browser interview functionality of your HotDocs Server without needing to install an entirely new server instance. Instead, you can update just the browser interview functionality of your HotDocs Server.

These files update much more frequently than the rest of your HotDocs Server or HotDocs Developer installs. This is because these files also form part of HotDocs Cloud Services. Due to the nature of the Cloud, HotDocs releases updates and fixes to the JavaScript used in browser-based interviews as needed; there are no announced releases. Therefore, you should check this page as often as you think necessary for new features and software issue fixes. Alternatively, you can subscribe to the Browser Interview RSS feed to receive alerts about new releases.

End User Alerts

Enhancements to browser interview functionality impact your end users most. The same is true of software issues that affect your end users' experience with your templates and interviews. We annotate both improvements and concerns here (except bug fixes, which are annotated in the appropriate Readme or Release Notes file), so that you can alert your customers to the enhancements and issues that affect their user experience.

Concerns

Browser Behavior

Mouse Wheel Scrolling Issue

When constructing Silverlight interview dialogs long enough to grow scroll bars, be aware that users of browsers other than Internet Explorer (for example: FireFox, Chrome, and all Macintosh browsers) cannot use their mouse wheel to scroll. Mouse wheel events from browsers using the Netscape Plugin Application Programming Interface (NPAPI) are not recognized by the Silverlight windowless mode used by HotDocs to support pop ups. Users of these browsers must scroll using their scroll bars, not their mouse wheels. For more information, see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd759034(v=vs.95).aspx#platform_dependencies.

Silverlight Support
Watermarks disappearing

Text watermarks do not work with any browser-based services (such as HotDocs Server or HotDocs Cloud Services). To adapt your watermark for browser-based deployments, turn your text watermark into an image; then use Microsoft Word's picture watermark feature instead of a text watermark.

Issue with having a multiple choice option containing quotation marks fixed

You can now use the "Automatically select this option if variable is unanswered when displayed" option on a multiple choice option containing quotation marks.

New Features and Enhancements

The following list of releases describes the new features, enhancements, and bug fixes in each release of the HotDocs browser interview files. This list comes from the HotDocs Browser Interview RSS Feed, which updates with each new upgrade to Cloud Services. You can subscribe to the RSS feed to receive alerts about new releases, which may contain changes you want to add to your own instance of HotDocs Server, or see in your views of Test in Browser in HotDocs Developer.

Updating Browser Interview Files

The instructions below include installation steps for both HotDocs Server and HotDocs Developer.

BEFORE INSTALLING UPDATES, you should back up any customized versions of the files contained in the zip file, since updating overwrites your existing version of these files. Once you install the updates, you can use your backed up files to re-apply your customizations to the new files.

To see a list of new features, enhancements, and bugs fixed in each release of the browser interview files, see New Features and Enhancements, above.

Install Instructions

To update the HotDocs Browser Interview files for your HotDocs Server, you need to copy the files contained in the zip file to the location on your server where you installed HotDocs Server. If you want to see the fixes or enhancements when running a Test in Browser in HotDocs Developer, you must copy the files to your HotDocs Developer machine.

If you installed HotDocs at a location other than the default location listed below, substitute your custom installation paths when performing these steps.
