Adding a Service Principal to a Client
A service principal is a type of HotDocs Advance account that performs actions in Advance on behalf of a client.
Only clients using the ResourceOwner authentication flow are required to add a service principal.
Prerequisites
- Create a new API client – you must have an existing API client before you can add a service principal
To add a service principal to a client
- Open the details page for the client for which you need to add a service principal
- Click the Add a service principal button.
- Enter the following information into the Add a service principal for the client form:
- PrincipalName – the name of the new service principal
- (Optional) Password – an automatically-generated password appears in this field; you can change it to your own custom password, if necessary.
Remember this password; you will need it when making requests to the Advance API.
- (Optional) IsActive – check this box to make the service principal immediately available for making requests to the API; you can activate the service principal later, if necessary
