The installation settings file is a JSON file used by the HotDocs Advance installer to configure Advance during the installation process. It is also used to update the configuration of deployed Advance instances.

The installation settings file contains all necessary settings to configure your deployed Advance applications. These settings include domain names, Advance application URLS, SMTP settings, and so on. You edit the settings file before you first install Advance. During installation, the installer uses the file to configure the individual applications that comprise Advance.
You also use the installation settings file when updating the settings for an existing deployment of Advance. If you edit the installation settings file and run the generate and upload installer commands, your deployed Advance instance is updated with the new settings.
Advance uses the installation settings file to generate the site-specific settings files. Each site-specific settings file contains configuration information for a separate Advance application.
When you run the generate installer command, the installer takes the installation settings file and outputs a settings file for each Advance application. This is designed so that settings required across multiple applications (which require separate configuration files) can be set in a single location, i.e. the installation settings file.
You should always edit the installation settings file and use the generate and upload commands to update Advance application settings. You should never edit the application settings files directly.
