Workflow to Set Up an Initial Tenancy
Once HotDocs Advance is deployed, the next step is to prepare Advance for your users. This requires you to create and configure a new tenancy.
Each deployment of Advance will have at least one tenancy. A tenancy is an individual instance of Advance within your Advance deployment, used to organize and enforce separation of data. For example, a department within your organization may have their own tenancy, which other departments do not have permission to access.
To set up the initial tenancy
To make a tenancy available to your users, use the following steps as a guide:
- Log in to the root application.
 - Create a new tenancy – create an initial tenancy for your users.
 - Activate the tenancy - make your tenancy available to users.
 - Create a new Site Administrator user – create an administrator user for the new tenancy.
 - Log in to the tenancy for the first time – ensure you can log in to the new tenancy.
 - Install HotDocs Author for template authors – install the Author desktop application.
 - Add an upload destination to your workspace – configure Author to upload templates to the new Advance tenancy.
 - Upload templates to the tenancy – upload templates from HotDocs Author to your tenancy.
 - (Optional) Configure your tenancy to use single sign-on (SSO); you must have an existing SSO provider. Either:

- Configure Single Sign-on (SSO) – general instructions for configuring SSO using an OpenID Connect provider
 - Configure Single Sign-on (SSO) using Azure Active Directory – instructions for configuring SSO using Azure AD

 - Create user accounts; either:

- Create user accounts – for username/password (UNP) tenancies.
 - Import accounts from Active Directory – for Active Directory (AD) tenancies.

 - Create user groups – create organizational groups for your users.
 - Create work groups – create organizational groups to give user groups access to templates.
