Reordering Items on a Dialog

You can change the appearance of dialogs, by reordering items vertically or placing up to 3 items side by side.

You won't see the layout of a spreadsheet dialog until you click Edit Row on a spreadsheet during the interview.

To rearrange items vertically on a dialog

  1. Open Component Studio.
  2. From the components list, open a dialog for editing.
  3. In the Contents tab, click and drag an item to reorder.

As you do this, HotDocs displays a horizontal bar showing you where HotDocs will place the variable when you release the mouse.

If you re-arrange items using the Layout tab, when you try to then rearrange items vertically in the contents tab you can't tell when you're replacing items that are side-by-side.

To place items vertically or side-by-side on a dialog

  1. Open Component Studio.
  2. From the components list, open a dialog for editing.
  3. Click the Layout tab.
  4. Click an item icon and drag it to another location in the tab.

When you do this, HotDocs displays either a vertical or a horizontal bar that indicates where HotDocs places the item when you release the mouse button. You can place up to three items on the same line.

If you place only two items on the same line, you can make one of the item wider than the other by selecting the Wide arrows button on that item.
