Using the Upload Plugin for HotDocs Developer
The Upload Plugin is a plugin for HotDocs Developer that allows you to publish HotDocs Templates to the HotDocs Hub.

Prerequisites
Before you can use the Upload Plugin to upload templates, you must install the following items:
- On content development machines:
- HotDocs Developer 11
- HotDocs Developer Upload Plugin
Download and Open the Repository Configuration File (.hdrepoconfig)
Before the Upload Plugin can be used to upload Template files, you must configure the plugin to connect to the HotDocs Hub by downloading and running the Repository Configuration file.
To Configure the Upload Plugin:
- Open a web browser and navigate to the HotDocs Hub.
- Click the Config button (top-right corner) to download the Upload Configuration (.hdrepoconfig) file.
- Navigate to the location of the downloaded .hdrepoconfig file.
- Double-click the .hdrepoconfig file. The upload URL is automatically added to the plugin.
Add Authorization credential to the Upload Plugin
You must configure the Upload Plugin to use your upload authorization 'secret' credential before Templates may be uploaded to the Hub. The same secret is used by all users in your organization able to upload Templates from HotDocs Developer to the Hub.
The authorization secret required to upload Template are sent to the Tenancy Administrator when the HotDocs Hub account is first provisioned. If you do not have authorization credentials, please contact your HotDocs sales representative.
To add your authorization secret to the Upload Plugin:
- Open HotDocs Developer
- Navigate to Tools > Options
- Navigate to Plugins
- Select UploadPlugin.HDHubPlugin from the Plugins list
- Click Preferences
- Select the configuration for your tenancy from the Configuration drop-down menu
- Navigate to the Security tab
- Enter the secret in the Application Secret field
- Click Save
- Click Close
You can now upload a Template to the HotDocs Hub from HotDocs Developer.
Upload a HotDocs Template to the HotDocs Hub
You can only upload 20 templates simultaneously from HotDocs Developer. If you choose to upload more than 20 templates at one time, HotDocs opens the Templates Upload page in a new browser window and allows you to upload the templates you selected in batches of 20.
To upload a Template from HotDocs Developer to the HotDocs Hub:
- Open HotDocs Developer
- In the Library, right-click a Template
- From the drop-down menu, select Upload to HotDocs Hub
- Select the name of the server to which the Template will be uploaded, e.g. HotDocs Hub
- Click Upload. The web browser opens the Template Upload page of the HotDocs Hub
- Select the Template(s) to upload, using the check-box next to each Template
- Optional: you can set a Forward Publishing Date for the Templates
- Click Upload Selected or Upload All Templates
- Navigate to the Templates section and you can now see the new template in the Templates list
Set a Forward Publishing Date
During upload, you can set a Forward Publishing Date for any Template. To set a Forward Publishing Date:
- Upload a Template, as above
- On the Template Upload page in the HotDocs Hub, select a Template
- Click the Edit Record button at the bottom of the Templates table
- Click the ellipsis button next to the Live From field
- Select a Date and Time using the Date Picker
- Click Done
- Click Update
- Click Upload Selected or Upload All Templates to complete the Template Upload process
When you view the Template in the Templates section of the HotDocs Hub, the status of the Template is set to Pending rather than Live.
