Answers Reuse Between Work Items With Different Templates

When you copy answers from an existing work item to create a new work item, answers that are not used by the new work item's template do not appear in the interview.

Overview

When copying answers from an existing work item to a new work item, you can use any template to create the new work item. However, answers from the existing work item only appear in the interview for the new work item if:

• The template for the new work item contains a question that appears in the template used by the existing work item
• The question in the existing work item contains an answer

An example scenario for reusing answers is outlined below.

Copying answers from an existing work item to a new work item example

For example, imagine you already have a work item (Work Item A) and three different templates (Employee Agreement, Employee Vacation Allowance, and Client Contract) in Hub.

The Employee Agreement and Employee Vacation Allowance templates contain a question, Employee Name. The Client Contract template does not contain this question.

Work Item A has the following properties:

• Work Item A uses the Employee Agreement template.
• The Employee Agreement template contains a question, Employee Name.
• In Work Item A, the answer for Employee Name is Abigail Richards.

When you copy the answers from Work Item A to a new work item, Work Item B:

• You create a new work item, Work Item B.
• Work Item B uses the Employee Vacation Allowance template.
• The Employee Vacation Allowance template contains a question, Employee Name.
• When the interview for Work Item B loads, the Employee Name answer field contains the answer Abigail Richards.

However, you then try to copy answers from Work Item A to a new work item, Work Item C. Work Item C will not display the answer Abigail Richards, as only answers that match questions in the new work item are displayed in the interview. For example:

• You create a new work item, Work Item C.
• Work Item C uses the Client Contract template.
• The Client Contract template does not contain an Employee Name question.
• When the interview for Work Item B loads, Hub cannot find a place in the interview to load the answer for Employee Name.
• The answer Abigail Richards does not appear in the interview
