Editing a Placeholder Field
You use the HotDocs Field Editor to edit a placeholder field in a DOCX or Plain text template.
To edit a placeholder field
- Open a DOCX or Plain text template and click the HotDocs placeholder field you want to edit.
- In the HotDocs Field Editor, change any field properties you need including:
- Use the Variable box to change the component attached to this placeholder field (by specifying a different variable name)
- Use the Format drop-down list to set the format HotDocs uses when an answer replaces the (currently selected) field during assembly.
- You can use text formats to format placeholder fields that reference text variables, multiple choice variables that have the Select one item configuration, and computations in which you are working with text.
- Use the Advanced Properties to set further field level behavior
- (Optional) Click the Undo button to undo the last change.
- (Optional) Click the Delete button or remove all of the text from a field to delete this placeholder field in the template.
- When you finish, click elsewhere in the template and HotDocs saves your change.
To apply changes to every instance of a component you can edit the components Default Field Properties in Component Studio.
