Instructions Overview

An instruction is a HotDocs logic command that instructs HotDocs to perform a task, such as asking a dialog at a specific place in an interview or adding a specific piece of text to the final assembled document if a certain condition is met.

Overview

Using instructions in your templates enables you control a wider range of features and automate much more complex documents. There are many instructions you can include in a HotDocs script, whether in a computation or dialog script. However, there are only four kinds of instructions you can include in a HotDocs field within a template.

• IF Instructions – Makes part of a template conditional.
• REPEAT Instructions: – Creates lists within the document.
• ASSEMBLE instructions – Assemble another template and append its contents to the end of the current template

Common Tasks

• Placing a dialog in an interview (ASK instruction)
