Common Tasks

Create and Edit Multiple Choice variables

There are two places you can create and edit a Multiple Choice variable: in the Field Editor when you're editing the template and in Component Studio.

Option, Prompt, and Alternate Text

If the multiple choice options alone are not descriptive enough, the template author can create a prompt for each option and provide additional information if necessary. Additionally, you can specify different alternate text for each option that will be placed and formatted in the completed document. For example, if you need to place gender-specific pronouns (like he/she or his/hers) in the document, you create a Multiple Choice variable called Gender with two options: Male and Female. Then, specify alternate text that places the correct pronoun (he or she), based on the gender the user chose. You can specify this alternate text at either the Field Editor or in the Component Studio.
