System Requirements for HotDocs Author

Before installing HotDocs Author, make sure your computer meets the system requirements necessary for using Author.

Hardware Requirements

• 1 GHz processor (2 GHz recommended)
• 1 GB available RAM (2 GB recommended)
• 250 MB hard disk space for installation process, 85 MB thereafter
• 1024 x 768 screen resolution

If you previously set your Windows display options to a size greater than 150% you may find that some HotDocs dialog boxes do not display properly. You can check your display settings by clicking Start Menu > Settings > System > Display.

Software Requirements

We actively test and create fixes for software that meet our software requirements:

Operating System

• Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)
• Windows 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit)
• Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit)

Word Processor

• Microsoft Word 2010 SP2, 2013, or 2016 (32-bit and 64 bit)

Internet Browser

• Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 or later

• In addition to IE9 or later, the following browsers are supported for interviews (latest version -1 of the following):
• • Chrome
  • Edge
  • Firefox
  • Safari

Developer Tools

If your computer does not already have the following developer software installed, during Author installation, you will be prompted to authorize and download:

• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6
• Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 2 Express (ENU\x64\SqlLocalDB.msi for 64 bit computers, ENU\x86\SqlLocalDB.msi for 32 bit computers)
• Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime

If you do not have internet access or otherwise prevented from downloading the software necessary for Author to run properly, you will need to install the software manually (using an external drive, local network, etc.).
