Work Groups Overview

A work group is a named location in HotDocs Advance that provides you with a specific set of templates – the un-customized content upon which new documents are based – from which you can create new, customized documents. You can be allocated to multiple different work groups.

Overview

When using Advance, you will often want to create new, customized documents. This is accomplished by opening a work group to which you are allocated and creating a new work item. On creating a work item, you will be prompted to enter data into an interview. Once you finish the interview, Advance creates a new document which you can then download.

Each work group has a set of templates (un-customized content upon which new documents are based) allocated to it, from which you create work items. These allocated templates usually fall under a common category. This is often a department in your organization. For example, suppose you have a Human Resources work group. That work group would enable you to create customized documents related to Human Resources. For example, employment contracts. In this way, work groups enable you to group related types of work items together in one place.

Common Tasks

When you first log into Advance, you will see a list of the work groups to which you are allocated in the navigation sidebar, under the Your Work groups heading. Click the link for a work group to open that work group. From the work group, you can create a new work item, open the Interview for an existing work item or download existing documents from a work item.
