New Template Dialog Box

Select the template type first as some of the options in the New Template dialog box change depending what type you select.

Element What it Does
Type Enables you to select the type of template you want to create:
  • Word Template (.docx) – a template for creating Word documents
  • Plain Text Template (.ttx) – a template for creating text documents
  • Answer Intake (.hdint) – an intake file for gathering answers using a HotDocs interview
File name Enables you to type in a file name for the new template. HotDocs appends the name with the file extension of your chosen template type.
Title By default HotDocs populates this field with the file name (minus the file extension) but you can edit it for a more user-friendly title.
Description Enables you to type in a basic description of the templates contents or use.
Initial Contents (Only appears when select a text template) Enables you to select or browse for a document or template of the same type as your chosen template type. HotDocs then uses the content of the selected file to populate the new template.
Properties Opens the Template Properties dialog box for the type of template you have selected.
