Using Auxiliary Templates in a Repeat Context

The repeated context feature enables you to assemble multiple versions of an auxiliary template according to data gathered in an interview. For example, if you want an auxiliary template to assemble a different version of the document for each of your client's children, you can assemble the auxiliary template within the context of a repeated dialog.

Prerequisites

  • An existing HotDocs template
  • An auxiliary template

The repeated context feature requires your template to be an auxiliary-only template.

To use an auxiliary template in a repeated context

  1. Open the parent template for editing.
  2. Create a repeated region.
  3. Inside the repeated region, create an ASSEMBLE instruction to assemble the auxiliary template.
  4. In the Field Editor, under Field properties, check Use current repeat context.
  5. In Workspace Explorer, select your auxiliary template.
  6. Click Template Properties.
  7. In the Template Properties dialog box:
    • From the drop-down menu, select the Component File of the parent template.
    • Check Auxiliary-only template.
    • From the Repeat context drop-down menu, select the repeated dialog in which your auxiliary template is used.

HotDocs assembles versions of the auxiliary template according to the data gathered in the repeated dialog.

You can use a computation to set a custom filename for the assembled documents, helping you identify each of the multiple versions, e.g. "Mary's travel document", "John's travel document" etc.
