HotDocs Advance Overview

HotDocs Advance is a suite of software applications that significantly reduce the time you need to generate client or customer specific documents. For example, using HotDocs Advance, you can generate individualized loan applications, sales proposals, business contracts, medical forms, or government and court forms.

Overview

HotDocs Advance is a complete template producing, data gathering, and document assembly platform comprised of HotDocs Author and HotDocs Hub. HotDocs Author enables you to create HotDocs templates and then upload those templates to HotDocs Hub, while HotDocs Hub enables you to deploy and manage your templates to gather data from your users. HotDocs then adds this data to the boilerplate text in your template to produce a final document that is unique to your individual client or template user. From a single template you create using HotDocs Author, you can generate an infinite number of like, but individualized documents using HotDocs Hub.

HotDocs Advance enables you to perfect a template and minimize the “human error” factor that repetitive typing or copying and pasting introduces when trying to use an existing document to produce a new one. You can also add instructions to your templates that tell HotDocs how to update verb tenses, gender references, dates, numbers, calculations, depending on the data your template users provide. HotDocs Advance also enables you to craft custom questions to guide your template users through the interview. Using HotDocs, you can compile an invaluable repository of special language, unique clauses or terms, correspondence, and more. Using HotDocs Author, you can convert virtually any document in your workflow to a HotDocs template. HotDocs templates then enable your experienced colleagues to share their knowledge, and new colleagues to come up to speed faster.

Common Tasks

Among others, HotDocs Advance enables you to perform the following common tasks in the two applications that make up the platform:

HotDocs Author

HotDocs Hub

Workflow

In HotDocs Advance, you start with HotDocs Author. The most common workflow is to transform an existing document into a reusable HotDocs template, replacing the changeable text with placeholder fields. Placeholder fields enable you to point to the appropriate type of variables that define the kind of data you need at that location. Next, you upload the template to HotDocs Hub, so the next time you want to generate a completed document, you instruct HotDocs to generate a data-gathering interview based on the variables you added to your template. The interview then prompts your template user to provide the information needed to generate a final document. After, HotDocs assembles a document by replacing each variable in your template with the appropriate information gathered in the interview, and combing this data with your template's boilerplate text.
